Standard-M

As most of you know, large corporate campaigns often involve many United Ways. The campaign is often administered through a large United Way at the corporate headquarter location where they collect processing and fundraising fees. Your local United Way may perform local fundraising activities at the branch location and hence incur fundraising costs. Some local donors may designate their gifts to their home (check-off) United Ways, so those United Ways may incur processing costs as well.

The new Andar Standard-M optional module, to be released in early August, allows you to specify fundraising and processing fees for the processing organization, fundraising fees for the fundraising organization, as well as processing fees for the check-off organization. Of course, specific companies, agencies, or donors may have overriding contracts assigning different fees. Andar's Standard-M module will handle all of this when processing gifts and producing payments to agencies. In accordance with Standard-M, the processing organization can deduct all fees up front, acknowledge and thank donors, and issue tax receipts. The fundraising and check-off organization can, with the module, upload the data and process it without duplicating the fees or communications with the donors.

The additional payout process that the processing United Ways can use to pay the fees collected to the fundraising and check-off organizations will be released January/2007.

Because transactions will now include the processing, fundraising, and check-off United Way account numbers, and lockbox will import this information, the Standard-M module will allow the local United Way great flexibility in handling transactions processed out of area but raised or distributed locally.

Alert! Service Pack Install Time
The August service pack will take a significant amount of time to install, based on the amount of designation information contained within your system and the speed of your server. Please plan accordingly.

Data Quality Policies - Part 2
Data quality starts with data entry. But how do you ensure the data is entered correctly and consistently? A data quality policy document is essential. Each organization should have a document describing how everyone should enter data. Each organization collect different data and Andar has many optional fields to hold this data but it is up to your organization to decide what fields will be used, how will the data be entered, and in what situation. Computer programs can't make all of these decisions; many such decision can only be made by people. Examples: what transaction types to use for what type of gifts, how to assign account managers, and what demographics to assign to donors.

Get The News On Donors
Did you know that Google can help you get the news on donors? Just go to
www.google.com, click news, then type the name of your donor in quotes, and click search. At the bottom of the list you will see "Get the latest news on <donor name> with Google Alerts." Just click the link to register with Google. Google will then send you an e-mail whenever that donor appears in the news. You can even create yourself an account with Google to manage all your donor alerts.

Is it Zip Or War?
Many customers find that when they download the e-Community service pack, it downloads to their system as epledge.war.zip, instead of epledge.war. Remembering to rename the file is crucial - if it is not renamed, the service pack does not deploy properly, conflicting code versions try to coexist, and strange errors occur. To prevent this problem, open Windows Explorer, and select the Tools menu, folder options, file types, and click New. Enter file extension "WAR" and click the advanced button to display the drop down for "associated file type". Select "WinZip File" from the drop down list and click OK. You will never have to worry about renaming the downloaded file again!
