CRM - Getting Started (Part 1)

The CRM buzz is out. Actually, that's all people talk about. Everybody wants it. A few people are not sure why they want it but they've heard it's good and they should have it. This series of short articles will give you answers, tips, quotes, and links to valuable articles about CRM.

Tip #1:
Be careful, most CRM tools are designed for product sales and service. This means that they track contacts at companies or individual customers, sales prospects, products sold, as well as providing analysis of sales volumes by salesperson and geographic regions. These CRM tools typically don't track gifts, designations, philanthropic interests, spouses, friends, event participation and probably not employee giving. Are you prepared for the high cost to enhance these CRM products to track gifts?

CRM Quotes:
"To succeed with a CRM implementation you need to communicate, communicate and communicate. [...] A critical pitfall to avoid is focusing too much on process and technology, and not enough on the people who will be using the system."

Default Tab
Did you know you can right-click on any tab of an account to make it the default so that the next time you open an account, that tab will be shown first? Similarly, you can also setup a default sub-tab for each tab.

Integration With Outlook
Helix is proposing a redesign and expansion of the current MSOutlook integration with Andar. The new module will include automatic upload of sent and received e-mails from Outlook into Andar as well as the ability to download groups of contacts from Andar into Outlook folders.

Benefits:

  • Centralize CRM functions in Andar, where most of the enterprise data is stored.
  • The power of MSOutlook for individual communications is extended to the enterprise level.
  • Staff can continue to use MSOutlook to manage their communications. Andar automatically copies e-mails into Andar communication logs and makes them available to the entire enterprise.
  • Andar will be a central repository of all communications with donors and key stakeholders. Any staff member authorized to the communications tab of an account can view all e-mails sent/received to/from that account.
